Huge jackpot in sight: new Champions League format could bring big rewards to Club Brugge

Given that there are more matches, there are inevitably more TV rights. Which can further fill the pockets of the clubs participating in the C1. Explanations.

By ensuring that they will play in the 2024-2025 Champions League group stages, Club Brugge has already secured a whopping €18.6 million, reports HLN.

In addition to this, there are other emoluments. UEFA has decided to reward clubs that have had good European results in the past. A ranking has been established and Club Brugge is in 25th place. But among the 24 teams that are ranked above them, some have not managed to qualify for the Champions League this season. This has pushed the Blauw en Zwart to 17th place in the ranking. Thanks to this, they pocket an additional 13.3 million euros.

To this must be added the TV rights sold to non-European channels. Thanks to its 17th place in the ranking, the club from the Venice of the North will receive an additional 5.1 million. That means 37 million will automatically go into the Bruges coffers.

And that’s not all! Once the 36 clubs have played their 8 matches, during which each victory can bring in 2.1 million, they will be ranked from 1st to 36th place. Based on this new ranking, the clubs will receive more money. The last ranked will receive 275,000 euros while the first will receive almost 10 million more. Finally, the teams that finish from 1st to 8th place will receive an additional bonus of 2 million euros. Those that arrive between 9th and 24th place will receive an additional million.

Twenty-two, here come the Belgians: from Courtois to Lavalée, a record vintage for the Belgians in the Champions League

Once they reach the knockout stage, the clubs still receive qualification bonuses. In total, if the Club manages to reach the round of 16, which is the objective set by Nicky Hayen’s men, it is more than 50 million euros net that will come into the coffers.

Enough to further establish its domination over Belgian football. All that’s left to do is to start this Wednesday evening with the reception of Borussia Dortmund.
