F1 – Hamilton: Mercedes denounces a “new problem”

While George Russell finished the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in third place, the race did not go as planned for Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion finished in ninth position. Mercedes has also revealed that it is facing a new problem with the 39-year-old's car.

THE Azerbaijan Grand Prix didn't go exactly as planned for Lewis Hamilton. While George Russell finished on the podium with his third place, the seven-time world champion had to settle for ninth position at Baku. Mercedes is not happy with such a result, and has even admitted to having another problem with Lewis Hamilton's car.

“We couldn't stop the rear tires from overheating”

It was good to have a car on the podium, but let’s not kid ourselves; this weekend wasn’t good enough and we need to improve. The first stint for both drivers was weak. We couldn’t stop the rear tyres from overheating and at one point it looked like we were going to have a very difficult afternoon. The hard tyre suited us much better. ” first explained Andrew Shovlin in remarks reported by NextGen-Auto.

Hamilton 'just couldn't get through' DRS trains

Lewis' race was difficult because he kept hitting the DRS trains and just couldn't get through them. The closer he got to the cars in front, the more he suffered from overheating tyres. That's a new problem for us. Regardless, we weren't strong enough here to get a podium on merit and that's what we need to focus on. ” then added the director of track engineering at Mercedes. It remains to be seen whether this issue will be resolved before the Singapore Grand Prix September 22.
