(CercleFinance.com) – Airbus announced that it has been selected by MDA Space to supply solar panels for MDA AURORA TM , the software-defined satellite product line enabling constellations to extend communications networks to all corners of the world.
Airbus will supply more than 200 Sparkwing solar panels which will be manufactured on a dedicated line at Airbus' high-capacity production facility in Leiden, the Netherlands.
This solar panel is the largest Sparkwing to date, consisting of two wings of five panels each and offering a photovoltaic surface area of more than 30 m².
'Our industrialised Sparkwing solar panel product not only meets the requirements of this groundbreaking constellation project, but is also designed to ensure optimum performance in space. Sparkwing solar panels are designed for series production, perfectly suited for constellations, and we will thus contribute to a project enabling space connectivity,' said Rob Postma, Managing Director of Airbus in the Netherlands.
