Who was really Michael Jackson's brother with the surprising solo career?

Toriano Adaryll Jackson, better known as Tito, was born on October 15, 1953 in Gary, Indiana, United States and died on September 15, 2024. He is the third of nine children in the Jackson family. From a young age, he got into music, following the path traced by his brothers, notably in the family group, the Jackson Five.

Alongside Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon and of course Michael Jackson, Tito participated in the creation of unforgettable hits like ABC, I Want You Back or even I'll Be Therewho marked the 70s. A talented guitarist, Tito stands out with his discreet but effective playing, allowing Michael's voice to shine.

An artist in the shadow of family fame

Although his contribution to the Jackson Five is undeniable, Tito Jackson has remained relatively in the background, overshadowed by the meteoric rise of his brother Michael and sister Janet Jackson. However, this has not stopped him from developing his own musical path.

In 2003, when he was 50, he began a solo career, specializing in blues. In 2016, he finally released his first album, Tito Timewhich includes his first solo hit, Get It Babyin collaboration with rapper Big Daddy Kane. A funky track that retains the essence of the Jackson Five while bringing a modern touch as indicated by musical Youtuber Steevy Musicfeelings on his site. The album, composed of 15 tracks, mixes jazz and R&B influences.

A timeless musical heritage

Tito Jackson, although very discreet, has managed to maintain a link with his musical roots while reinventing himself. Much like Michael Jackson's death, Tito's passing marks the end of an era for the family. His sons, Toriano Jr., Taryll and Tito Joe, have expressed their sadness on Instagram. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson. We are shocked and devastated. Our father was an exceptional man who cared deeply for others.”
