“Fortune de ”: Why certain scenes from the 2 series will bring back memories for fans of M6's “Traitors”

Starting this Monday, September 16, 2 is releasing its mini-series of the new school year: “Fortune de France”. The historical fiction directed by Christopher Thompson is an adaptation of the family saga of the same name by Robert Merle and available in no less than 13 volumes published between 1977 and 2003. These volumes have been condensed into 6 episodes of 52 minutes, the first two of which will be broadcast this Monday evening. Note that the series is already available in its entirety on the france.tv platform.

The series filmed entirely in Dordogne

This fresco telling the religious war in France between Catholics and Protestants through the story of a Périgord family is carried by Nicolas Duvauchelle, Guillaume Gouix, Lucie Debay and Grégory Fitoussi. The first two were also crowned “best actors” at the 26th edition of the Fiction Festival, which took place from September 10 to 15.

And if you are attentive and you are following the latest season of “Traitors” on M6, currently broadcast, some scenes from “Fortune de France” should remind you of something. The game of Six, which pits “traitors” against “loyals”, is indeed set in the Château de Biron, in Dordogne. It is also in this setting, which was originally a medieval fortress, that several sequences of the France 2 mini-series were filmed. This place made it possible to reconstruct, among other things, the streets of the town of Sarlat in the middle of the 16th century.

Filming took place from mid-March to the end of June 2023, and all scenes were shot in emblematic locations in the department of southwestern France. In addition to the Château de Biron, other buildings hosted the set of “Fortune de France” such as the Château de Commarque in Les Eyzies or that of Beynac, located in Beynac-et-Cazenac.

Competition that promises to be tough

Will the France 2 mini-series manage to pull off a masterstroke this Monday evening? It will have a lot to do since TF1 is launching its new season series “Brocéliande” at the same time, with Nolwenn Leroy in the title role. A fiction that also has 6 episodes of 52 minutes. The two new shows will face a program that generally leads the way on Monday evenings: season 19 of “L'amour est dans le pré”, broadcast on M6. The show hosted by Karine Le Marchand has always come out on top in the ratings since its launch at the end of August, if we exclude the evening of September 9, slightly dominated by football and the match of the Blues against Belgium.
