Death of former minister Sejaan Azzi

Former Lebanese Minister of Labor Sejaan Azzi died Thursday at the age of 71, after a long battle with illness, confirmed L’Orient-Le Jour. The information was also reported by the National News Agency (Ani, official).

According to local media, Thursday morning, the Maronite prelate Béchara Raï would have gone to the bedside of the ex-minister who was in the intensive care unit of the Rizk-LAU Medical center hospital in Achrafié.

Sejaan Azzi, who was close to the Maronite patriarchate, was appointed Minister of Labor in Tammam Salam’s cabinet in 2013. He had also been vice-president of the Kataeb party and adviser to party leader Samy Gemayel.

Born in Okaibé, in Kesrouan, in 1952, this former journalist held a degree in philosophy from the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, and another in political and administrative science from the University of .

During his youth, he joined the Kataëb party. In 1985, he founded the Radio Liban Libre station.

Sejaan Azzi had published four books. He had also given several conferences in Lebanon, Europe and the United States. He leaves behind his wife Dania Halim Baroud, and two twins, Aude and Joy.
