A fire broke out around 4:50 a.m. this Thursday morning at the Tereos factory in Mesnil-Saint-Nicaise. An electrical transformer powering the starch mill caused a fire which spread to the different floors of the mill, indicate the Somme firefighters. The company immediately triggered its internal incident operation plan.
Tereos intervention teams began to put out the fire, more than 80 firefighters and 46 engines went to the site. The fire was brought under control in the morningthere is “no risk of spread to the rest of the units on the site“.
The twenty employees present on site at the time of the incident were immediately evacuated, there was no no injuriesspecifies SDIS 80. A psychological unit has been set up to accompany and support the site teams.
No soil or air pollution
Following the samples taken by the Somme fire brigade, “we can confirm that this incident did not cause any soil or air pollution“, indicates the communications department.
The other workshops on the site will be restarted as soon as possible. “Tereos will be able to honor its commercial commitments to its customers and partners on the Nesle platform, in particular thanks to the relay of its starch factories in Lillebonne, Marckolsheim and Aalst,” adds SDIS 80.
