World Youth Day: 16-year-old blind girl says she has regained her sight

This Saturday, August 5, on the sidelines of WYD in Lisbon, a 16-year-old girl, named Jimena, claims to have regained her sight during a mass.

Was there a miracle this weekend at World Youth Day in Lisbon? In any case, this is what Jimena, 16, says, who explains that she regained her sight during a mass.

During a “novena”, a prayer recited every night for nine days and on the day Pope Francis visited the gathering, Jimena went to Mass with a request. Indeed, after receiving her Communion, the young girl returned to her pew. On the way, she explains that she prayed to God and asked him for healing. It’s only once she opens her eyes that Jimena”saw perfectly“.

According to our colleagues from Figaro, Jimena suffered from a muscle problem in the eye called “accommodation spasm“, at an unusually high level for her age. Even to the point that the young miraculous was preparing her return “accompanied by a cane and a guide dog”.

After undergoing several treatments, without success, Jimena turns to Our Lady and asks her parents, on the day of her departure, to launch a novena. 400 people join in the prayer.

Present at the time of the events, his father explained his experience to the press: “She opened her eyes, and began to see everything. Then she started crying and realized that her friends had grown two and a half years older” he recalls. “We hardly spoke to each other, she was crying, she just told us “I see, I see”. It’s an incredible joy“.

Even if the medical profession has not yet looked into Jimena’s case, Cardinal Juan José Omella, President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference and Archbishop of Barcelona says he wants to “give thanks to God”.

From now on, an in-depth investigation should take place, over a period of 5 to 15 years to attest or not to the miraculous nature of his healing.
