Dramatic accident on the E19: Complete closure of the E19 motorway near Brecht due to a serious accident

A serious road accident involving four trucks and a car occurred Tuesday morning on the E19 near Brecht in the province of Antwerp. The motorway is completely closed from the Netherlands in the direction of Antwerp, confirms the Flemish center in charge of traffic management which recommends motorists to avoid the place.

Two people are currently between life and death, confirms the federal police. The two people were in the car which was located between the two trucks.

The emergency services are present en masse at the scene of the accident. The disturbances caused by this are likely to last, the car being stuck under one of the heavy goods vehicles.

The accident immediately caused queues from Hoogstraten. Around 10.15 a.m., there were already 10 kilometers of traffic jams and waiting times were already two hours.

All traffic on the E19 in the direction of Antwerp must leave the motorway at the Brecht exit and then take the D diversion to the Sint-Job-in-‘t-Goor slip road in order to access again to the E19 highway. Significant disruptions are also expected on this relief route. Motorists coming from the Netherlands are advised to take the A12 motorway at Bergen-op-Zoom. The access ramp at Brecht is also closed due to the accident.
