One of them had been arrested during the night, shortly after the shooting, while the other three were picked up by BRI police officers in the middle of the day in the Toulouse area.
In this organized gang murder case, police custody can last up to four days. The four suspects must be heard within the next 96 hours.
Hit by at least five bullets
Monday evening, around 10 p.m., the victim was at a known deal point in the Empalot district, rue de Menton. A car, a Clio, arrived and entered a back alley in order to get as close as possible to Malik Lassel.
Arriving in the immediate vicinity, the shooter left his target no chance. He showered her with heavy fire from which at least five bullets hit him in the neck and back. Malik Lassel collapsed in front of several witnesses. The firefighters and the Samu medicalized him on the spot in a very tense atmosphere where hostile people shouted their anger.
He was then transported to Rangueil hospital in critical condition. He did not survive, despite the care that was given to him.
Turf wars and criminal records
On site, specialists from the judicial police and a representative of the prosecution were already analyzing the crime scene. Both the modus operandi and the identity of the victim immediately steered the investigation towards a settlement of accounts.
If Malik Lassel had not been talked about for some time, he already had a heavy criminal record, deflowered from his 13 years. He had made several stays in detention, in particular for trafficking in narcotics.
In Empalot, for several months, tensions have appeared until the ultimate escalation on Monday. Regularly, shots are fired in this city burdened by drugs and the turf war that this traffic generates. There are jambisations (Editor’s note, shots in the lower limbs) intended to calm any inclination to settle on the deal points already held by bosses. Was the victim in the way of a rival gang? The hypothesis is studied especially since, according to our information, he had felt threatened for some time.
