On the sidelines of the presentation of its new Marvel Spider-Man watch in Dubai, Audemars Piguet achieved a record auction. The Swiss brand collected more than 8 million dollars for 3 lots: original Spider-Man comics from the 1960s for 260,000 euros, a model of the future Perpetual Calendar which will be released in 2024, with VIP access to the inauguration of the House Audemars Piguet in Los Angeles at the end of August, for 1.8 million euros and a Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “Black Suit Spider-Man” watch. This unique model, which echoes the 250-piece limited edition Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “Spider-Man” presented on May 25, raised the stakes in one of Dubai’s skyscrapers. In a few minutes, the paddles of potential buyers panicked to reach 6.2 million dollars.
This figure constitutes a record for an Audemars Piguet watch, a record previously held by another Marvel character, Black Panther. In 2021, also equipped with a white gold case, the Black Panther watch found a buyer for 5.2 million dollars. This money will go directly to First Book and Ashoka, two non-profit organizations that aim to encourage young people to become agents of change. This Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon in white gold (and not in titanium and black ceramic as for the 250 other models) named “Black Suit Spider-Man”, with a black textured rubber strap and a second strap in black textile-effect calfskin lined with white stitching, pays homage to the famous black suit that appeared in 1984 in the Comic Spider-Man’s black costumewithout us still knowing today for what reasons.
The Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon “Black Panther” watch made it possible to buy 50,000 books and equipment to help 750,000 students (5 to 18 years old) and 25,000 educators in these two associations in the United States. This time, the “Black Suit Spider-Man” watch, sold for 6.2 million euros, will achieve the goal of helping 250,000 educators and 1.5 million children in the United Kingdom, Canada , Nigeria, Indonesia and Brazil. Like Spider-Man, this watch, exceptional in terms of complications and meticulousness, will serve a good cause.
