The Sept-Îles firefighters woke up residents of the 71 Comeau at 6:25 am this Friday morning. A suspicious fire led to a brief evacuation of an apartments block. People were able to return to their accommodation from 7:15 a.m.
The fire started in lockers in the basement of the building. The SQ is investigating the cause, deemed suspicious by the head of the fire department Joël Sauvé. No one was injured.
The evacuation of the building of 24 dwellings was necessary due to smoke. The building’s fire alert system allowed the firefighters who were near the barracks near to intervene quickly.
-“It is suspect because the origin is in lockeers in the basement. You needed someone to turn on, ”explains Joël Sauvé. An SQ investigator has already started to question witnesses.
The paramedics and the police went there at 6:25 am this morning to help if necessary. A tenant had started to get out of the flame material of the basement when the firefighters arrived.
