Arson of a building in 2023 in Mouscron: the perpetrator received a five-year suspended sentence

October 17, 2023 remained in the memories of the inhabitants of Chaussée d’Aalbeke and more particularly of those who lived in the building which caught fire that evening, following an explosion. Fortunately, the twenty or so occupants of the building, mainly elderly people, escaped without serious injuries.

The investigation was able to demonstrate that the fire was intentional. The person responsible for this fire was a neighbor of the building, a lady in her early sixties. On the stand, before the criminal court, the Mouscronnoise had stammered this: “This isn’t going to make things better, but I’m sorry.“She fully admitted the facts with which she was accused.
