Twenty-six people were evacuated following a fire on an oil platform in the Adriatic Sea, the Italian coast guard announced on Wednesday, specifying that there were no injuries or pollution at this stage. Images released by the coast guard show smoke but no flames on the Rospo Mare B platform, operated by the Greek company Energean, listed on the London Stock Exchange, and which produces 2,200 barrels per day according to the company’s website .
The Rospo Mare B platform, located 20 km from the coast of the Abruzzo region (south-east), is the subject of a “complex operation” Coast Guard to contain and extinguish the fire using several vessels with firefighters on board.
A plane and a helicopter were also dispatched to the site to detect possible pollution. The personnel of the platform affected by the fire, but also those of the platforms located nearby, were evacuated as a precautionary measure, i.e. 26 people in total.
