A collaboration between tech giants
The Stargate project is the result of a collaboration between tech giants: OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle. The latter announced the creation of a joint venture dedicated to building data centers and AI-related infrastructure across the United States. The initial investment amounts to $100 billion, with the aim of reaching $500 billion within four years.
According to the 47th president, this initiative should generate more than 100,000 jobs on American soil. The first data centers are already under construction in Texas (the law is more favorable there), each covering an area of 46,000 m². These infrastructures will support advanced applications supported by AI, particularly in the health fieldby facilitating the analysis of medical records to improve the health journey.
During the announcement, Donald Trump emphasized the importance of maintaining the competitiveness of the United States against nations, such as China. We want it to stay in this country. China is a competitor, others are competitors. We want it to be in this country, and we make it possible
. To facilitate the rapid development of these infrastructures, the administration plans to use emergency procedures in order to accelerate the procedures related to the production of energy necessary for the operation of data centers.
Reactions from the technology sector
The announcement of this project had a fairly favorable impact on the stock market. Oracle shares were up 7%, while other AI-related companies, such as Nvidia and Arm Holdings, also saw their shares rise. Executives of the companies involved, including Sam Altman (OpenAI), Larry Ellison (Oracle) and Masayoshi Son (SoftBank), expressed their excitement about the potential of this collaboration to shape the future of artificial intelligence. Note that according to a joint press release published Tuesday, Stargate is financially supported by the MGX investment fund, backed by the United Arab Emirates.
Project Stargate marks a significant milestone in the development of AI in the United States, positioning the country as a leader in this growing field.
