Standard: Harkin towards the exit, Leko too?

A lot will happen in the coming weeks at Standard. A new stage of the buyout process is underway. Once this is resolved, many changes should occur in Liège. Here is an inventory.

According to La Derniere Heure, candidates will have the opportunity to make an offer in the coming weeks. Several interested parties are in the running and the process is starting to gain momentum. A-Cap, the current owner of Standard, would ask between 20 and 25 million euros. However, the new buyer will also have to assume a debt of 69 million euros.

It also seems that sports director Fergal Harkin is in his last months in Liège. His family has already returned to England and Harkin has a fixed-term contract at Standard. It is therefore very likely that he will leave the club.

Leko would like to stay

In addition, there is also the file of Ivan Leko. The coach enjoys his stay in Liège and would like to stay there, as he told Het Belang van Limburg.

“Will I still be Standard’s coach next year? In football you never know, but that’s what I think. No, China doesn’t need to call me back right away. As I said before: I missed Belgium too much,” explained the former coach of Club Brugge and Royal Antwerp FC.

However, this is not up to Leko. If a new buyer arrives, we will have to wait. These often bring their own people through their agent network, so nothing is certain yet.
