Thanks to the rapid intervention of firefighters this evening, the worst was avoided for residents of Route 236.
It was 8:38 p.m. when the alarm sounded for a chimney fire at 57 Route 236. The rapid arrival of the municipal fire department supported by those from Saint-Étienne-de-Beauharnois as well as those from Saint -Stanislas-de-Kostka helped avoid the worst.
The head of operations, Pat Legault, told me that we absolutely must place emphasis on the safety of auxiliary heating installations, such as wood stoves, which must always be checked to ensure they are safe and that we must not skimp on chimney sweeping, which constitutes an excellent practice for preventing the risks of fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.
-The residents were able to return to their homes, not without having had a good scare on this Saturday evening.
