Six homicides in two weeks

A start to the year marked by violence in Guadeloupe and the Northern Islands… On

Last week, the North Island was the scene of several incidents of violence, three homicides in less than 48 hours. First, on Thursday January 9, a shooting broke out in the Orléans district, leaving two people dead and one injured. An investigation was opened for murder by an organized gang, possession of weapons and criminal association.

In this case, the Basse-Terre public prosecutor’s office has relinquished responsibility for the benefit of the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction of Fort-de-. The next evening, Friday January 10, another shooting in Grand-Case cost one person his life. Two other individuals were shot and injured in the evening. Here again, investigators cite facts of murder and attempted murder by an organized gang.

Guadeloupe is not spared from these acts of violence. Sunday January 12, a 16-year-old boy was fatally stabbed on the sidelines of the carnival in Pointe-à-Pitre. Two days later (Tuesday 14) the body of a man in his seventies was discovered on Salines beach, in Saint-François. The victim showed signs of stab wounds. An investigation into aggravated murder was entrusted to the gendarmerie.

Finally, the Pointe-à-Pitre public prosecutor’s office reported a sixth victim, attacked and severely beaten, at the beginning of the year… She died of her injuries. Research is continuing to establish the link between the violence suffered and his death.
