After two months of ordeal, the red lantern of Ligue 1, Montpellier, raised its head at Mosson against Monaco (2-1). The principality club’s place on the podium hangs by a thread.
After three matches without winning in Ligue 1, after an elimination in Reims in the Coupe de France and before a delicate European Cup match to tackle on Tuesday against Aston Villa, AS Monaco has not really felt reassured in the Hérault Friday evening. In a Stade de la Mosson with often sparse stands, Adi Hütter’s players completely stopped playing during the match and fell to a red lantern deprived of victories for two months.
Without captain Zakaria, still ill, but with the great first of winter recruit Biereth in Ligue 1, ASM had largely dominated the first period. With two points taken out of twelve, Adi Hütter’s team is still third but this place in the top 4 could not seem more precarious. Much further in the red zone, and before the other meetings of the weekend, Montpellier is still four lengths from Nantes (first club in the red zone), but this negative end to the series could revive the Hérault machine. At least that’s all we hope for this Friday evening at La Paillade.
