La Boussole is at the same time head of the Escales network, the network of intercommunity media libraries, the office of the Tourist Office, and a third place. Just ten months after its opening, in April 2023, the establishment had already welcomed more than 120,000 visitors.
Located on an administrative wasteland in the city center of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, La Boussole has just won an international prize. More precisely, it is the “Architecture MasterPrize”, in the “Conceptual Architecture” category.
“The city of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges wanted to transform a disused administrative site, dating from the time of the city’s reconstruction, into a cultural center including a media library, a tourist office and a floor area of 4 800 m2. The old complex was made up of a central courtyard and several buildings attached to each other. These buildings formerly housed the police station, the high court and the city’s chamber of commerce. We thought it would be wise to bring together these different parts to offer a complex centered on a large common space” explains the project manager of La Boussole, the architectural firm “Dominique Coulon et associés”, which also received the “Architecture MasterPrize” for agency of the year. For the creation of the Deodatian establishment, but also for the Montigny-le-Bretonneux Conservatory.
David Valence, who was one of the main architects of the creation of La Boussole, was delighted on his networks to obtain this international prize.
