Danielle Collins will see the third round at the Australian Open. Despite a tight match, the American, 11th in the world, did the job against qualifier Destanee Aiava (7-6, 4-6, 6-2).
This meeting was marked by the clash between Collins and the Australian public.
After the match point which saw the latter qualify, Collins celebrated by upsetting the spectators at the Kia Arena with, among other things, an ironic kiss.
The handshake with Aiava was marked by a stadium bronca towards Danielle Collins, who was booed when doing the interview on the court.
Her appearance in front of the Australian Open media had to be cut short, since even during her post-match speech, the spectators did not spare her and continued to show their dissatisfaction with the attitude of the 31-year-old player.
“During the game, I said to myself, ‘As long as I’m here, I might as well take this big check.’
We love taking 5-star vacations and this check will help make that happen, so thank you for coming to support us. Thank you all, I love you,” Collins wryly told the audience.
