The evening of the round of 16 of the Coupe de France on Tuesday January 14 was marked by penalty shootouts. Lille surprised Olympique de Marseille on their home field (1-1, 4 tab to 3) despite Luis Henrique’s last-second equalizer. Losc extended its invincibility to 20 matches in all competitions. The Brazilian hero then saw Vito Mannone push away his shot on goal, like that of Englishman Jonathan Rowe. OM sees its drought prolonged in the Coupe de France, which it has not won since 1989.
In the other clash between L1 clubs, Reims eliminated Monaco (1-1, 3 tab to 1). For his first match with ASM, Danish recruit Mika Biereth missed his shot on goal, just like two of his teammates. For Monaco, the adventure ends even more prematurely than last year when the Principality team lost in the round of 16 on penalties against the modest FC Rouen (National). The meeting at the Stade Auguste-Delaune, very rhythmic, came down to a duel of strong heads between teams in search of confidence.
Le Mans also took out Valenciennes on penalties (1-1, tab) for a duel between National clubs, like Guingamp against Sochaux (2-2, 9 tab to 8) at the end of a long series. Nice (L1) won at Bastia (L2) 1-0 thanks to a goal from Mohamed Ali Cho.
Among the five National 3 clubs still in the race, Dives-Cabourg extended the adventure by beating Puy (1-0). The match between Haguenau (N2) and Dunkirk (L2) has been postponed because the pitch is frozen and will be rescheduled for next week.
For the rest and the end of the 16th final on Wednesday, Brest hosts Nantes for another shock between L1 and Paris SG plays in Auvergne at Espaly (N3).
