For five days, the third cultural venue offers various concerts, dance, a kinetic art exhibition, workshops and an electro finale this Sunday, January 18.
Every year Tropisme takes care to celebrate its anniversary. The third cultural venue installed on the former EAI wasteland, which continues to gain new buildings and inhabitants, still has a few anniversaries to celebrate. But after six years of existence, a milestone has passed. In 2030, we will have to make way. But from this Wednesday, the place invites the public to five days of celebration, Tropisme style. The latter hosts so many cultural and festive events all year round that it is spoiled for choice. The first anniversary, we saw Laurent Garnier. Times have changed. But the fundamentals remain, an exhibition, dance, concerts, something to satisfy the taste buds and workshops for young and old.
A digital art exhibition
Mixing art and technology, Tropisme has done it a lot. Three years ago, the public benefited from the creative power of the duo Adrien M & Claire B. In 2023, it was the 1024 Architecture collective that surprised us. Memorable moments. For the sixth candle, it is the Franco-American visual artist Jason Cook who gives us the benefit of five of his kinetic sculptures. The Neo-Montpellier is a pioneer in the field of digital art in France. If he has an obsession it is movement, and its dynamic link with structure and technology. Light effects, sometimes vintage technique, interaction, immobility or tangles, there will be something to be surprised, and perhaps even hypnotized.
-Concerts, dance and workshops
On the concert side, it’s almost every evening that the musicians are on stage. This Wednesday, from 8 p.m., it’s Baile funk or carioca funk atmosphere with two DJs: Mendi and Mabrada. The next day, after a dance class given by Salia Sanou at 7 p.m. for beginners and experienced dancers alike, the evening will be dedicated to Africa. There will be music from dj S! D and then the pleasure of the taste buds with two chefs of Congolese origin: Yannick Bassounga and Merveille Nguimbi. Friday, swing is in the spotlight from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday is punctuated by workshops (Kapla, oppi games, embroidered photos, etc.). But in the evening, it’s the 1990s who take their ease with the Los Deglingados orchestra before a DJ takes over.
The finale with five hours of electro
The last day combines a garage sale and a workshop, before the anniversary ends with five hours of electro music led by the Magie Noir label. So, no, it’s not Laurent Garnier, but we’re still going to dance well.
