The municipality has issued a decree to this effect, in an attempt to stem the worrying phenomenon of laughing gas.
No more laughing! By means of a municipal decree transmitted to the Prefecture dated January 9, the city of Agde took the decision to prohibit the sale (or donation) to minors of canisters of nitrous oxide, this famous laughing gas particularly popular with young people, in sedentary or non-sedentary businesses in the town.
A decision that has been in the pipeline for some time now and which is therefore effective at the start of the year, knowing that adults are also affected by this ban, in the context of the sale of nitrous oxide “whose individual weight is equal to or greater than 8.6 g, within a packaging (box) not exceeding a total of ten cartridges.” Precise, therefore.
Misuse, health risks
Deciding on this ban is the consequence of several factors. Sanitary first. This gas stored in cartridges normally used for whipped cream siphons, when diverted for recreational purposes, can cause “burns to the lips or throat from the cold, as well as a risk of loss of consciousness, or even death from lack of oxygen when the cartridges are very concentrated”it is recalled in the decree. Side effects such as confusion, difficulty coordinating movements, impaired memory or even heart problems have already been noted.
-Too often, we inhale while driving!
Regularly, in parks and green spaces, city agents collect dozens of empty cartridges, a sign that consumption continues to increase. A problem for the cleanliness of Agde of course, but also a risk for public safety, knowing that these behaviors are “regularly associated with driving vehicles”we note at the town hall. And if the evil is deep, the national and municipal police officers have at least one additional lever in the legal arsenal allowing them to fight against this scourge.
