Olivier Deschacht doesn’t mince his words: “Yes, Anderlecht made a mistake” – All football

Anderlecht finds itself very helpless in defense. For Olivier Deschacht, Sporting was not forward-looking enough this summer.

This summer, Anderlecht recruited Jan-Carlo Simic and Zanka to strengthen the central axis of its defense. If the first is a success, the same cannot be said of the second.

The problem already encountered last season is even more glaring. With the physical glitches of Jan Vertonghenthe two players cited were the only center defenders available. This forced Leander Dendoncker and Théo Leoni to occasionally come and lend a hand.

Selon Olivier Deschacht, Anderlecht made a mistake by starting the season with only three central defenders. “Absolutely, and it doesn’t even have anything to do with Vertonghen’s injury propensity,” he says in Het Nieuwsblad.

Making up for summer mistakes

“At Anderlecht you have to have double cover in all positions, especially if you play in Europe. Throughout my career I have always had an almost equal competitor at right-back. So they definitely need to recruit two central defenders during this transfer window, even if Vertonghen returns to form again” explains the former captain of the Mauves.

“We simply need four central defenders” he concludes. Olivier Renard knows what he has left to do this winter. Even if the first recruit should be César Huerta, it is no coincidence that the latest rumors concern defensive profiles.
