The MRI predicts between one and five centimeters of snow, the Province of Liège widely affected

The sky is torn between snow and rain this Wednesday and these hesitations should continue in the coming days. The Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) warns of slippery conditions, particularly in the province of Liège.

The first alert concerns only the province of Luxembourg, where precipitation will consist of slush and rain. Accumulations of 30 to 40 mm are forecast in 24 hours, prompting vigilance between 4 p.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Thursday.
In the rest of the country, it is rather the (melting) snow which will make the roads slippery. The MRI predicts between one and five centimeters of snow in many places, or even more locally. Residents of the province of Liège are particularly urged to exercise caution. Conversely, everyone should stand on their own two feet at the Coast. This warning is generally valid from 6:00 a.m. Wednesday and until 4:00 p.m. Thursday.
On Wednesday afternoon, a disturbance will quickly reach Belgium from the south. It will initially carry slush but, as it gains intensity, it will transform into snow. It will arrive in the center of the country at the end of the day and in the northeast in the evening. Then, milder air will rise, changing the snow to rain in the far south of the territory.
The thermometer will rise painfully to a maximum of 1°C in the Ardennes, up to 4°C elsewhere.
In the evening and at night, (slush) snow will fall in Lower and Middle Belgium. In general, you should be wary of freezing rain, especially on the terrain. The minimums will oscillate between temperatures slightly below zero in the center, around +2°C on the coast and +8°C in Belgian Lorraine.
Snow again Thursday
Thursday morning, the area of snow will move from the west and north towards the center of the country and will then join the south of the Sambre-et-Meuse furrow where the rains of the night will therefore be replaced by new snowfall. Clearings could bring to mind the blue of the sky in the afternoon, between two winter showers.
Special number 1722 activated
Note that the Federal Public Service (FPS) Interior activated the special number 1722 on Wednesday morning due to a risk of flooding. In the event of water damage for which assistance from the fire brigade is required, this is the number to call. If a life is in danger, you should call 112.
