Formula 1 | Briatore: Alonso will decide on his future after seeing Newey’s impact

Flavio Briatore, executive advisor of Alpine , is still the manager of Fernando Alonso, driver in a directly competing team, Aston Martin F1.

The Italian does not intend to give up his role, believing that there is no conflict of interest. But he admits his collaboration with the Spaniard is near the end as far as Formula 1 is concerned at least.

Briatore believes that Alonso will make his decision about a possible retirement in 2026, quite logically.

“If you ask me if Fernando wants to continue after his contract ends, I don’t know yet. Our last year will be 2026 for the moment with Aston Martin.”

“What he wants to do next, I don’t know. Does he want to continue for another year?”

“The performance is there. You see Fernando’s performance, it’s there. It’s not a question of loss of concentration, or motivation. During a race, he’s always there.”

“If he’s 11th, he wants to be 10th. If he’s 10th, he wants to be ninth. He wants the car to be competitive. He qualifies well, he races well.”

“I don’t know, honestly, if he wants to stop with 2026 as his last year or if he wants to continue. Honestly, I don’t know.”

“It will depend on how he feels about the project with Adrian Newey, and the timing, I don’t know if he will have started a family by then and so on.”

“But for sure, he’s a unique person. I’ve never seen someone like that, so determined every day, every day, every day. He never gives up. Incredible.”
