What happened on Monday in the streets of several cities in is both astonishing and revealing: French people took to the streets by the hundreds to celebrate together the death of a man. The old whispering adage “We do not rejoice when someone dies” has been repeated to us by our educators – and it is not particularly a Christian admonition, but an admonition of universal wisdom and spirituality. Just some ethical advice so as not to deviate from simple human civilization – the first peoples also respect death wherever it comes from. It is therefore quite natural that we wonder to what depth these French people have fallen who are drinking champagne on a fresh grave. Obscene behavior, in the etymological sense.
