Two residences in Ferland Park in Sept-Îles were destroyed by a fire overnight

A major fire ravaged several buildings, including two mobile homes in the Ferland sector, completely destroyed during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday in Sept-Îles.

The city’s firefighters were called to the scene at 3:38 a.m. for a fire which started in a garage on rue Marguerite-Blanche. It spread around. There were winds up to 35km/h.

Several people were evacuated in the middle of the night. The Red Cross is providing them with help. Hydro-Québec first disconnected the entire sector, then an area of ​​34 residences for security reasons.

The firefighters intervened effectively to prevent the worst, summarizes the head of the Sept-Îles fire brigade Joël Sauvé. The latter was very afraid to see many more mobile homes go up in smoke when he arrived on site at 3:45 a.m. this Wednesday morning.

He called on around twenty firefighters from Rio Tinto IOC as reinforcements. As a result, the houses at 47 and 49 Marguerite-Blanche were completely destroyed. Two other houses were damaged and five garages.

The fire is currently contained, but firefighters are continuing to work to put out all the fires.
