The funeral of Jean-Marie Le Pen, founder of the National Front who died Tuesday at the age of 96, will take place on Saturday in his hometown of La Trinité-sur-Mer (Morbihan), the vice-president of the National Rally Louis Aliot said on Wednesday.
The ceremony will be held “in family privacy”, Marine Le Pen’s former companion said on TF1. Jean-Marie Le Pen had expressed in the past the wish to be buried in the family vault in La Trinité-sur-Mer.
Death of Jean-Marie Le Pen. At Trinité-sur-Mer and at the National Rally, we want to remember a “visionary”
The Le Pens remain linked to the Breton town, where the leader of the RN deputies often spends her summer vacations in the family home.
A setting which should remain conducive to contemplation, said Mr. Aliot, despite demonstrations by opponents in several cities on Tuesday evening to celebrate the death of the former far-right tribune.
“They are not going to come and demonstrate at a funeral. And if they do, I guess the state will make sure to keep them away“, declared the mayor of Perpignan, who also confirmed that Ms. Le Pen had learned of the death of her father through the press, returning from a trip to Mayotte.
“We were on the plane, in Nairobi where we made a technical stopover, and it was when we landed“in the capital of Kenya”that the journalists who were present on the flight informed us of the death.”
Yesterday Tuesday, a demonstration brought together nearly 200 people in the city center of Rennes until shortly after 11 p.m. Projectiles and trash fires accompanied the demonstration before it dispersed in the frame. Six people were nevertheless arrested.
