“It’s a long-term job, started more than a year ago, which is coming to fruition.”Vanessa Maes from Spa Grand Prix told us. “Each year, the negotiations are more and more difficult because we are not in the same financial category as other countries. Certainly, there are currently two holes in our new contract, but this one is long-term. This is what we wanted, by being insured until 2031, because it puts us in a better position vis-à-vis our service providers. We have a very long-term vision here and that allows us to be in a certain financial balance, with the unwavering support of the Walloon government.”
“And then, 2028 is still a long way off. Water may still flow under the bridge between now and that deadline and who knows, we might also have a Grand Prix on that date as well as in 2030. In any case, We are in a much better position than a few years ago when we were clearly notified that we were off schedule.”
The main thing is that we are certain to see F1 in the Ardennes until 2031, at least, and that’s so much the better. Phew!
