Donald Trump Jr., son of the president-elect of the United States, visited Greenland on Tuesday as part of the filming of his web series “Art of the Wave”, broadcast on Apple TV. This visit comes as his father multiplies the declarations concerning his intentions towards the Arctic island. Already during his first term, Trump had expressed his desire to acquire and annex the largest island in the world, which covers two million square kilometers. Questioned yesterday on the subject, the president-elect did not rule out the use of military force to annex Greenland. He also mentioned in the same conversation the Panama Canal, which is also the subject of his attention.
“Where are we going?” Trump Jr. was asked aboard the family’s private plane. “We’re going to Greenland. See what they think of America, have a good time,” he replied, smiling. The plane landed at Nuuk International Airport, the capital, where a local ground agent was filmed wearing the famous MAGA cap, after Trump Sr. promised to “make Greenland great again”.
The government of the Arctic island, which constitutes an autonomous Danish trust territory, as well as the Danish government itself, categorically reject Trump’s attempts to annex Greenland to the United States. The two governments jointly asked him to stop all interference in this matter.
In a video posted by Trump Jr., an encounter with local residents wearing red MAGA caps can be seen. Despite obvious language difficulties, when asked about their needs, they simply replied: “Everything.” Asked if they liked the United States, they answered: “Yes.”
After his brief visit, Trump Jr. said: “We had a warm welcome in Greenland. People are enthusiastic about the United States, enthusiastic about Trump, and I can’t wait to come back here .”
