Jean-Marie Le Pen was a patriarch who brought his daughters and granddaughter into his political adventure. How was the Le Pen dynasty born?
Then the sole president of the National Front for 39 years, Jean-Marie Le Pen gave way, in 2011, at the age of 83, to his daughter. For the Le Pens, politics is first and foremost a family affair. From his first major television show in 1984, Jean-Marie Le Pen placed his three children in the front row. It was the eldest, Marie-Caroline, who first entered politics. But in 1988, she chose the wrong side, that of Bruno Mégret, and left the party.
The youngest, Marine, begins a career as a lawyer, joins the National Front, and, for her first TV set, bluffs her father during the thunderclap of 2002. He has found his successor but his strategy of clashes annoys his daughter. She then begins to theorize the demonization of the National Front. He regretted the turn taken by the party. In 2015, Marine Le Pen excluded her father from the party. The dynasty had, a little later, several branches with Marion Maréchal, closer to her grandfather.
