Chinese people were arrested on January 4, 2025. In their possession, there were 12 gold bars and $800,000 in cash, or approximately 506 million CFA francs.

According to information in a video published on Brut’s X account, three men from China were arrested in the village of Machango, in the province of South Kivu, while they were excessive speed.

In fact, the police in this region were on alert since several Chinese had already been caught in possession of gold that they wanted to export clandestinely.

So the security forces remained on guard and monitored the surroundings. Weeks of surveillance allowed us to catch the gold traffickers.

Once the officers searched the stopped vehicle, the police discovered in the Jeep Land Cruiser, 12 gold bars and $800,000 in cash, or approximately 506 million CFA francs.

A careful search by officers uncovered the cargo hidden in the seats of the car.

Governor Jean-Jacques Proussi, South Kivu, speaking to the Congolese press, explains that this jackpot represents only a tenth of what the three men already have and have already spent.

This statement shows the seriousness of the clandestine export of gold in the DRC. This practice impoverishes the country and increases the economic crisis.

Criminals make a lot of money on the back of the suffering of the Congolese population. For the governor, these people could not have acted alone.

Thus, he denounces the participation of certain high-ranking Congolese in this traffic. Corruption is plaguing the country and slowing down development efforts.
