Jean-Marie Le Pen died at the age of 96. His daughter Marine was informed of the death on the plane bringing her back from Mayotte. It was journalists who told those around him.
When Jean-Marie Le Pen took his last breath, Marine Le Pen was far, very far from the metropolis. The leader of the deputies of the National Rally was on board the plane which brought her back from Mayotte where she returned from a three-day visit. Marine Le Pen was not aware of her father’s death: it was journalists who alerted those around her.

Several journalists were on the same plane as Marine Le Pen. When the plane made a technical stop in Nairobi, Kenya, and the mobile network was accessible again, they received the alerts from Agence France Presse and showed them to the RN MP’s advisors.
“They were not aware. Marine Le Pen was not aware either and it was her advisor who showed her the push, the AFP alert,” says the special envoy from Europe 1 Alexandre Chauveau.
The journalists were unable to see Marine Le Pen’s reaction. As soon as she heard the news, she isolated herself on the plane and made phone calls, presumably to her family.
The plane on which Marine Le Pen is is due to land around 11 p.m. in Paris. Jean-Marie Le Pen died at the age of 96 at Garches hospital (Hauts-de-Seine) where he had been admitted for several weeks.
