The friendship between the two countries is based on a history of close ties throughout the struggles against colonialism, imperialism and the construction of socialism. After the historic visit of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and President Tô Lâm to Cuba in September 2024, relations between the two countries have reached a new peak, in a comprehensive, effective and sustainable manner, said the ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes.

According to the diplomat, the two sides should further promote bilateral cooperation in economics, trade and investment. Top leaders of the two countries paid special attention to promising new projects in food production, research and development of biopharmaceuticals, projects in the energy sector and many other areas of potential cooperation between the two sides .

Cuba commits to creating favorable conditions and providing incentives to encourage Vietnamese businesses to participate in Cuba’s socio-economic development, while identifying new economic, trade and technological sectors based on Vietnam’s solid development achievements .

2025 will be the “Year of Vietnam – Cuba Friendship”, a year in which the two countries will celebrate the 65e anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations (December 2, 1960 – December 2, 2025). This will be an opportunity to honor the particular historical heritage that binds the two peoples, a priceless treasure and an example for humanity in building a solid relationship between the two countries, towards peace, prosperity, development and social justice, said the ambassador.

In the coming year, the two sides will maintain high-level political exchanges. Major commemorative events are planned in Vietnam and Cuba, he said.

In the cultural field, the two countries will strengthen exchanges between organizations and artists in fields such as fine arts, music, cinema, literature and other art forms.

During the first half of 2025, the 42e session of the Intergovernmental Commission is expected to be held, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, in particular promoting the implementation of new projects of mutual interest.

Relations between Vietnam and Cuba are an important factor contributing to the successful implementation of the cause of building socialism in both countries.

The construction of socialism in Cuba and Vietnam adapts to the historical context of each country and the specific development characteristics of each country. Both countries agree on the role of the Communist Party as a vanguard force organizing and leading the people, based on Marxism and the creative path of its predecessors. The two countries share common views on the struggle for independence, sovereignty, equality and self-determination, and are committed to the principles of international law, including territorial integrity and non-interference in the internal affairs of the other.

Building socialism

Cuba and Vietnam have demonstrated that it is possible to build socialism, in which both parties and two states always strive to place the people and fully guarantee their rights at the center. We admire Vietnam’s economic and social successes in the process Doi Moiwhich are clear proof of the prosperity of socialist society under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and believe that Vietnam will successfully hold the XIVe National Party Congress in early 2026, and while achieving the goal of becoming a developed, high-income, socialist-oriented country by 2045.

Likewise, Cuba is implementing its socio-economic development program until 2030, although it is affected by the growing economic, commercial and financial embargo of the United States, and is placed on the list of States that unjustifiably support terrorism. In this context, Cuba always receives strong solidarity from Vietnam. In the face of such oppression, the Cuban people continue to unite and rise up, continuing to advance toward an independent, sovereign, prosperous and sustainable socialist society.

This year will be the first year that the ambassador will celebrate the traditional Vietnamese New Year. ”It will be a great opportunity for me to live and experience the rituals and customs of celebrating traditional Tet, a very special holiday for Vietnamese people”, stressed the diplomat.

On this occasion, he would like to send his best wishes for peace, harmony, solidarity and health to the Vietnamese people. He hoped that the new year will bring more prosperity to our two countries, while strengthening the special friendship between Cuba and Vietnam.
