In recent years, Apple has managed to improve the battery life of the iPhone by optimizing its hardware and working on the energy efficiency of its processors. As for the batteries, there have been no significant changes. But the good news is that it is possible that currently, the firm is working on a new type of battery that would allow for more energy storage, without affecting the dimensions. In any case, this is what is suggested by a recent publication from the blog “yeux1122” on the Korean platform Naver.
According to this publication, the main Chinese smartphone brands would consider, from next year, offering smartphones with batteries with large capacities ranging from 7,000 mAh to 8,000 mAh. And if an increase in capacity normally implies an increase in volume, the blog specifies that these brands would use new technologies which make it possible to increase the energy storage capacity, while keeping the same dimensions or even reducing them.
Moreover, the good news, for fans of Apple and Samsung, is that the same source indicates that these two brands should also develop similar technologies. As far as Apple is concerned, its new generation of batteries could arrive in 2026. These capacity increases would be obtained through the use of new materials which should improve performance.
Apple would try to develop its own battery
For the moment, this information should be considered with caution, since it does not come from an official source. But in any case, batteries that allow more energy to be stored, without increasing the thickness of smartphones, would be a real revolution for the industry.
Otherwise, it should be noted that this is not the first time that rumors have circulated about the iPhone batteries of the future. For example, in 2023, the Korean media ETNews published an article according to which Apple would try to develop new batteries to improve the autonomy of its products. According to this article, Apple’s ambition was to “creating a battery that has not yet been commercialized in the world.” The Korean media also indicates that Apple began developing its own batteries in 2018, according to the recruited profiles and patent applications.
