Frank Vatrano signs Shohei Ohtani’s contract

Frank Vatrano is a valuable player for the Anaheim Ducks.

He produces well offensively: he finished last campaign with a career-high 37 goals. In his first season in a Ducks uniform, he scored 24.

The forward therefore signed a contract extension with the Ducks. We are talking about a three-year agreement valued at $18 million.

But here’s what’s interesting about said contract.

Vatrano signed a Shohei Ohtani-style deal: he will receive $3 million in real salary for the duration of his deal… And starting in 2035, Vatrano will be able to earn $900,000 per year until 2045.

His plan is to leave California after his contract in order to pay less taxes:

I say this sounds like Shohei Ohtani’s contract and you’ll see why.

In December 2023, the MLB star signed a $700 million contract… But he will only receive 20 of the $700 million from his contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers over the next 10 years.

It will receive the remaining $680 million from 2034 to 2043.

This is the first contract of its kind that we have seen in the NHL and one must wonder if this can become a habit for the different clubs on the Bettman circuit.

Because there is an advantage: Vatrano’s contract will count for $4.57 million on the Ducks’ payroll (instead of $6 million).

This will allow the Anaheim team to have more money for the other guys:

The contract is interesting for the player and for the organization.

It’s true that it’s weird to think that Vatrano will receive money until 2045… But at the same time, we must not forget that the salary cap will increase in the years to come and that this amount will become quite minimal grace.

A great signing for the Ducks, so…. Vatrano thus financially secures its future.

In burst

– Zut !

– Beautiful but.

– Ouch.
