It was again in complete discretion that Michael Schumacher celebrated his 56th birthday. Since his skiing accident in Méribel (Savoie) on December 29, 2013, no news has been given on the state of health of the former Formula 1 legend. As a reminder, he had hit a rock, seriously injuring himself to the head before falling into a coma. It was only in June of the following year that he returned home to his family residence in Switzerland, after emerging from the coma. His state of health is kept under the greatest secrecy to preserve the dignity of the one nicknamed “The Red Baron”. His wife, Corinna, and his former manager, Sabine Kehm, have ensured that this remains the case for over a decade.

Mick Schumacher opens up about his father’s accident

Respecting the discretion advocated by his mother, Michael Schumacher’s children, Gina Maria (27 years old) and Mick (25 years old) rarely confide in the media about their father. Recently, the young man, who is also a racing driver, made an exception by granting an interview to Matt Whyman, which is transcribed in his book Inside Mercedes : Life in the Fast Lane (Penguin), published last November. “He was very supportive and fun, but he could also be a challenge”he reveals, before talking about his accident: “Those experiences, which I believe many people have with their parents, are no longer present, or to a lesser extent.” Michael Schumacher can no longer express himself, so it is difficult for his son to communicate with him. The latter admits that he would be ready to give up “just for” regain this relationship with his father.
