The king himself said he was “deeply saddened”. Charles III contacted the family of Edward Pettifer after learning that the 31-year-old Briton was among the victims in New Orleans. On January 1, he died along with 13 other people following an Islamist car-ramming attack in the United States city.
Edward Pettifer was the stepson of Princes William and Harry’s former governess, Tiggy Legge-Bourke, who is also known as Alexandra Pettifer. She married Charles Pettifer, Edward’s father, in the late 1990s. Prince William was also informed of this death, according to the PA agency.
Edward Pettifer’s family is “devastated by the tragic news of Ed’s death.” “We will miss him terribly. Our thoughts are with other families who have lost a family member following this terrible attack,” she added, quoted in a Metropolitan Police press release.
