The hostage-taking would have started late in the morning this Friday. According to information revealed by Provencean inmate from prison (Bouches-du-Rhône) has reportedly been holding several people hostage for several hours in the infirmary.

According to information from the police headquarters transmitted to 20 Minutesfive people would be held by this armed inmate: four nursing staff and a prison guard. The Raid intervention unit was called in for reinforcement.

Equipped with a bladed weapon

According to a prison source, the armed man would have a “psychiatric profile” and would be armed with a bladed weapon. According to our colleagues, the man would be 37 years old and would be “very unfavorably known to the police and the justice system”. He was reported to have been radicalized around ten years ago. The hostage-taking reportedly broke out after the detainee's transfer was refused.

The regional intervention and security team (ERIS) are on their way to intervene in the central house, located in the north of the city.
