In March 2024, the anti-terrorism investigating judges responsible for the investigation into the Romans-sur-Isère attack of April 4, 2020 followed the requisitions of the national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office (PNAT). They had decided to refer Abdallah Ahmed-Osman, a Sudanese refugee aged 33 at the time of the events, to the Special Assize Court for assassinations and attempted assassinations in connection with a terrorist enterprise.

According to the magistrates, “these attacks are part of a murderous journey with the circumstances that the facts were committed with premeditation and intentionally in relation to an individual or collective enterprise with the aim of seriously disturbing public order through intimidation or terror, in this case, by having carried out his action in connection with jihadist ideology”.

Three psychiatric assessments during the investigation

Three psychiatric assessments were carried out during the investigation. The first, in November 2020, concluded that his judgment had been impaired at the time of the events. The second, two years later, concluded that it would be abolished. Finally, the third, in June 2023, recognized its alteration.
