A snowy episode is expected over a large part of France, particularly in the northern half of the country.

There yellow warning for snow and iceinitially implemented by Météo-France in around fifteen departments this Thursday, is extended to around forty territories by Friday January 3. The Ain department is affected by this alert.

Although the snow and ice alert is programmed for up to 6 hours in the morning this Friday, in particular because of the risk of icy conditions caused by the rains on Thursday, vigilance will remain necessary in the evening, where temperatures will plunge.
On Friday morning, the department should experience cloudy but dry skies, with the thermometer close to 0°C. The afternoon will bring some sunshine to the east of Ain. However, nightfall will be accompanied by a sharp drop in temperatures.
During the night from Friday to Saturday, the thermometer will fall into negative values across the entire department. Forecasts call for spectacular lows, including:
- -4 °C in Bourg-en-Bresse
- -5 °C in Valserhône
- -7°C in Revermont
- -8°C in Nantua and Gex
- -12 °C in Hauteville
Risks of freezing fog cannot be ruled out in Bugey.
Precipitation, bringing rain to the entire department, should allow the thermometer to return above 0°C on Saturday. Sunday should be relatively mild and it could be up to 12°C in places, notably in Bresse and Dombes.
A new disruption is expected from the start of next week, followed by a new cold snap.
