The suspect in the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck in front of a hotel owned by President-elect Donald Trump in Las Vegas had a gunshot wound to the head, the Las Vegas sheriff announced Thursday, January 2, at a press conference.“We discovered, thanks to the medical examiner's office, that the individual had suffered a gunshot wound to the head before the vehicle exploded,” said Kevin McMahill, suggesting suicide, but specifying that the body had yet to be formally identified.

His motivations remain “unknown”said Spencer Evans, FBI agent. “We do not have information that allows us to say with certainty or suggest that this was motivated by a particular ideology”he added.

The FBI further stated that there was no “irrefutable link” between the vehicle-ramming attack in New , which left at least 14 dead on Wednesday, and the explosion of the Cybertruck the same day. Christopher Raia, a senior FBI official, however, warned earlier that the investigation was still in its preliminary stages.
