Bad news for the wallet in these first days of 2025. Among the price changes, the tax on vehicle registration in France will increase in many cities in France. It is the regions which determine the cost.
How is the amount of the registration document calculated?
As Europe 1 reminds us, “its amount is calculated based on several criteria such as CO2 emissions, but also tax horses”.
While the 2025 budget was not voted on due to the fall of the Barnier government, several regions are looking for revenue. Still according to our colleagues, “several of them have decided to go up to the maximum ceiling of €60 per tax horse in a context of all-out savings and the absence of a new budget”. This is the case for Normandy, Brittany and Centre-Val de Loire.
Here are the prices by region, from the cheapest to the most expensive, in 2025. With the unit price of the fiscal horse fixed, reports Sud-Ouest.
Hauts de France: €36.2
In Hauts de France, since January 1, 2025, you have to pay €36.2 to obtain a tax horse.
Pays de la Loire: €51
In the Pays de la Loire, since January 1, 2025, you have to pay €51 to obtain a tax horse.
New Aquitaine: €53
In New Aquitaine, you have had to pay €53 for a tax horse since January 1, 2025.
Occitania: €54.50
For residents of Occitanie, a tax horse now costs €54.50.
Île-de-France: €54.95
You have to pay €54.95 in Île-de-France to obtain a tax horse since January 1, 2025.
Burgundy-Franche-Comté: €55
The tax rate has been €55 since January 1, 2025 in Burgundy-Franche-Comté.
Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur: €59
In Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, you have to pay €59 to obtain a tax horse since January 1, 2025.
Grand-Est: €60
In the Grand-Est, you have to pay €60 to obtain a tax horse.
Brittany: €60
In Brittany, it costs €60 since January 1, 2025.
Centre-Val de Loire: €60
In Centre-Val de Loire, you also have to pay €60 to obtain a tax horse since January 1, 2025.

In first place in the ranking, Normandy, with a tax rate which increases from €46 to €60 from January 1, 2025, an increase of 30%.
