The attack carried out on December 27 by the Israeli army against the Kamal Adwan hospital in Beit Lahia, in the north of the Gaza Strip, is a textbook case of the violation of all the rules of war. A strategy that Netanyahu’s soldiers have followed without blinking for more than a year in the Palestinian enclave.
First, proclaim, without providing the slightest proof, that the hospital establishment is a nest of “terrorists”, a Hamas command center, to justify an assault. This is exactly what happened last week. Staff and patients were forced to flee or detained, and there were widespread reports of torture and ill-treatment.
This last large hospital, still operational, in the north of the devastated and besieged territory, was partly burned by the Israeli army and put out of service. The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, Dr Hossam Abou Safiya, was arrested.
No sign of life from the director
In the preceding days, he had desperately called on the international community to intervene “before it’s too late”. His calls for help, although relayed on social networks and in the media, were not enough. 240 people were arrested during the offensive.
