Tebas remains firm against FC Barcelona, dismissing Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor

La Liga has officially declared that Dani Olmo is ‘unregistered’, theoretically leaving him free: What happens now?

Despite FC Barcelona’s attempts to instill hope, the reality is that the situations involving Dani Olmo and Víctor are about to become the most embarrassing management seen under the presidency of Joan Laporta.

Last night, La Liga released a statement regarding FC Barcelona’s salary cap, noting that “as of today, December 31, FC Barcelona has not presented any alternative which, in accordance with the economic control regulations of LALIGA, would allow him to register players from January 2.”

As a result, neither Dani Olmo nor Pau Víctor could be registered. The club had concluded deals for the sale of VIP boxes at the Camp Nou, expected to generate €100 million, but La Liga remains skeptical, refusing to approve the deals due to a lack of payment guarantees.

First message from Dani Olmo after his non-registration with FC Barcelona in La Liga

Before the La Liga announcement, published shortly after 9:00 p.m., FC Barcelona communicated that it had requested a new license from the Royal Spanish Federation (RFEF) for players Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, who had to be registered in Liga before January 1, and denied asking for a “moratorium” to have more time.

“FC Barcelona informs that it has requested a new license from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for players Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. The club also wishes to refute any allegations that it requested or received a moratorium from from another organization regarding the requested recordings,” the club said in its statement.

The club believe they can maintain the records of Olmo and Pau Víctor for the second half of the season, with plans to provide further updates by January 3. However, the challenge is that the RFEF cannot process any federation registration without approval from La Liga—which has not happened yet—and this is where Laporta must focus his efforts.

In a decisive move, the institution chaired by Javier Tebas has taken a further step to demonstrate its unwavering stance: Both players were removed today from the official La Liga website.

The profiles of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, including their respective numbers (20 and 18), no longer appear in the FC Barcelona players section on the organization’s official website. In contrast, Andreas Christensen remains registered, despite being sidelined due to injury to allow Olmo to be registered earlier in the season.

This La Liga action will be final if Barcelona fail to achieve their goal. Given the RFEF regulations, this seems like a daunting prospect. The General Regulations of the Federation stipulate in Article 130.2 that “A player can only be registered with one team of a club, without the possibility of being scratched and re-registered by the same club during the same season, except in cases of force majeure or regulatory provisions. Furthermore, during the season, a player cannot be registered and aligned with more than three different teams.

Will FC Barcelona manage to convince the RFEF to ignore its own regulations? The Dani Olmo saga seems far from reaching a conclusion.
