After eight years of legal proceedings, actors Angelina Jolie (49 years old) and Brad Pitt (61 years old) can finally turn the page on their marriage. They signed the divorce documents on December 30, according to a press release from Jolie's lawyer, broadcast by several American media. Jolie says she is exhausted but relieved that this aspect of a long process is finally over, reports “People” magazine.
The divorce proceedings were initiated by Jolie more than eight years ago, after she and their children left Pitt, leaving behind all the assets they had shared. Since then, she has dedicated herself to finding peace and healing for her family. To date, no comment has been made by Pitt's representatives.
It all started with “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”
Nicknamed “Brangelina,” the couple has long been considered one of the most glamorous couples in Hollywood. Their meeting took place on the set of the film “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” in 2005, and they married in 2014 at their winery, Château Miraval, on the French Riviera.
The couple were among the highest paid actors in Hollywood, while engaging globally in social and humanitarian causes. They had three children together, and Pitt also played a fatherly role to Jolie's three adopted children.
However, in the fall of 2016, their marriage ended when Jolie filed for divorce, accusing Pitt of abusive behavior toward her and the children. This led to years of protracted arguments. According to “People”, Jolie and Pitt were declared legally single in 2019.
