In the Greater Region, 2024 ends better at the pump than the year started. Thus, the prices displayed for filling up with gasoline or diesel have decreased over the last 12 months.
By complaining about each increase – even as small as in recent weeks – motorists always have the impression that each visit to a service station costs them more and more. Error ! In any case for 2024… This feeling turns out to be inaccurate since the prices displayed for gasoil or lead-free have finally declined by around 1% over the year. Rather good news for purchasing power!
And if Luxembourg remains, on this New Year’s Eve, the most competitive country in terms of fuel prices, the Grand Duchy expects to an increase at the pump as soon as January 1, 2025 arrived. This will be, as since 2021, the application of the CO₂ tax.
A tax which, this year, should have brought in nearly 280 million euros in state coffers. This time, its increase should only represent approximately 1 cent/liter.
