On Friday, December 27, 2024, a lucky winner won the tidy sum of $1.22 billion (or more than 767 billion CFA francs) in the Mega Millions draw.
This amount makes it the fifth largest jackpot in American lottery history.
The winning ticket was sold at a gas station in Cottonwood, California, about 130 miles north of Sacramento.
The numbers drawn in this historic draw were: 3, 7, 37, 49, 55 and Mega Ball 6.
For now, the identity of the winner remains a mystery. It is also unknown whether he is aware of his fabulous fortune and whether he has already claimed his prize.
The winner now has the choice of two payment options.
He can choose to receive the full $1.22 billion in annual payments over a 30-year period.
